Missing Activist Ndiangui Kinyagia Found Safe.
Ndiangui Kinyagia, the activist and blogger who went missing on June 21, 2025, has been found alive and in hiding, his lawyer Wahome Thuku confirmed on Thursday, July 3. This comes as public concern and judicial scrutiny over his disappearance intensifies.
According to Thuku, Kinyagia contacted a family member on Tuesday, July 1 evening and confirmed he is safe, healthy and in an undisclosed location. The lawyer said Kinyagia went into hiding out of fear for his life after reports emerged that he was being sought by DCI officers over unspecified criminal charges.
“I want to inform Kenyans that Mr Ndiangui who went missing last week has contacted the family and he is well, healthy and safe. Ndiangui contacted a family member on Tuesday evening from an unknown location,” read part of Thuku’s statement on Facebook.
Thuku added that Kinyagia is willing to present himself at the High Court at Milimani Law Courts on Thursday, July 3 at 11:00 am provided his personal safety is guaranteed.
This comes as DCI Director Mohammed Amin and Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja were expected to appear before Justice Chacha Mwita at the Milimani Law Courts on the same day to respond to court orders to produce Kinyagia.
Justice Mwita had issued the orders after Amin and Kanja failed to comply with a directive on July 1 to produce the missing activist. The case attracted national attention after individuals believed to be DCI officers raided Kinyagia’s home in Kiambu County on the day he went missing.

The raid coincided with Kinyagia’s online posting of a “protest timetable” detailing the June 25 demonstrations which included plans to march to State House and declarations perceived to challenge national authority.June 30, DCI Director Mohammed Amin said Kinyagia was not in police custody but a person of interest because of the “inflammatory” content he published. Amin said DCI officers had searched Kinyagia’s home and recovered devices relevant to the ongoing investigations.
Human rights organisations including Amnesty International and Law Society of Kenya had issued urgent appeals for Kinyagia’s safety and release. The situation has attracted widespread condemnation from civil society and legal groups with growing concerns over state abuse of power against peaceful dissent.
