Sarah Wairimu, who is accused of killing her husband Tob Cohen, will remain under detention at Lang’ata Women’s Prison until two key witnesses provide testimony.
This comes after the prosecution contested her release and the Kibera High Court refused to grant her bond.
According to Justice Diana Kavedza, the court must protect witnesses and avoid any potential meddling in order to preserve the trial’s integrity.
After the witnesses have given their testimony, Wairimu may decide to reapply for bail.
Justice Kavedza, who denied her bail, stated that there was enough evidence to support the DPP’s claim that she would likely intimidate or obstruct the witnesses.
“Moreover, this is a case of public interest where life was lost in the most heinous manner,” the judge stated.
After reviewing the murder case and concluding that there was enough evidence to charge Wairimu with murder, DPP Renson Ingonga re-arrested her.
PC Peris Maina, PC Livia Gachanja, Assistant DPP Sarah Ogweno, Senior Assistant DPP Vincent Monda, and Senior Assistant DPP Gikui Gichuhi prosecuted the case.
On February 26, 2025, the case will be brought up for pre-trial instructions.
