Current Pay and Benefits for TSC Teachers by Job Grade

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) set salaries and perks for teachers in the 2021–2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). Several factors, such as job grade, responsibilities, and work location, influence the monthly salary and allowances.

Grade B5 (Primary School Teachers at the Entry Level)

Grade B5 is the entry-level classification for primary school instructors. This is the lowest-paying grade for TSC instructors. Teachers in this division receive a monthly salary that ranges from Sh21,756 to Sh27,195. The purpose of these salaries is to provide compensation to primary education instructors who are just beginning their careers.

Grade C1 (Advanced Primary School Teachers and Entry-Level Secondary School Teachers)

Primary school instructors who have advanced from Grade B5 and entry-level secondary school teachers with a secondary education diploma comprise Grade C1. Teachers in this division receive a monthly salary that varies from Sh27,195 to Sh33,994. This grade marks the initial step for secondary school instructors entering the profession.

Secondary school educators who possess bachelor’s degrees are classified as Grade C2.

Grade C2 pertains to secondary school educators who possess a bachelor’s degree in education. The monthly remuneration for this position is between Sh34,955 and Sh43,694. Teachers in this category are generally more qualified and have more experience than those in Grade C1.

    Senior Teachers (Grade C3)

Classified as Grade C3, senior instructors earn a monthly salary ranging from Sh43,154 to Sh53,943. The instructors in question possess substantial experience and frequently assume supplementary duties within their educational institutions.

    C4 grade

Teachers in Grade C4 earn a monthly salary of Sh52,308 to Sh65,385. This grade is indicative of the instructors’ professional development and contributions, as it demonstrates a greater degree of responsibility and experience than the previous grades.

    C5 grade

The monthly remuneration for Grade C5 teachers is between Sh62,272 and Sh77,840. Teachers in this grade are highly experienced and may occupy leadership positions within their schools.

    D1 grade

Teachers in Grade D1 receive salaries that vary from Sh77,840 to Sh93,408 per month. This grade caters to educators who have significantly advanced in their careers, potentially securing employment in administrative or other high-level roles.

    D2 grade

Teachers in Grade D2 earn a monthly salary ranging from Sh91,041 to Sh109,249. Senior instructors or those holding significant leadership positions within their institutions typically reserve this grade.

    D3 grade

The monthly salary for Grade D3 instructors is between Sh104,644 and Sh125,573. Teachers in this grade typically hold senior administrative positions and possess a significant amount of experience.

    D4 grade

Teachers in Grade D4 receive monthly salaries that vary from Sh118,242 to Sh141,891. These educators frequently participate in the highest echelons of school administration and decision-making.

    D5 (High School Chief Principals)

High school chief principals, classified as Grade D5, earn a monthly salary that ranges from Sh131,380 to Sh157,656. The most senior administrative positions in high schools reserve this highest-paying grade for themselves.

    Allowances

In addition to their base salaries, TSC instructors receive numerous allowances. These provisions aim to aid educators in different aspects of their professional and personal lives. The provisions consist of:

    • Hardship Allowance: For educators employed in regions that are struggling.
    • Commuter Allowance: To compensate for transportation expenses.
    • House Allowance: To help with accommodation expenses.
    • Leave Allowance: To assist educators during their absences.

The amount of these allowances is contingent upon the teacher’s employment grade, workstation, and specific responsibilities. These provisions are essential to ensure educators receive adequate support in their responsibilities and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

The TSC’s pay and benefits system generally aims to give teachers fair compensation that matches their credentials, experience, and job responsibilities.
