According to reports, Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi is being held at the Kiambu Road headquarters of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
On Tuesday morning, Senator Karungo Wa Thang’wa of Kiambu County initially announced the news on social media, writing, “DCI at it again.” Juja MP George Koimburi has been taken into custody. Why? They haven’t said anything yet.
Thang’wa acknowledged to the media that DCI investigators had stopped the politician on his approach to Parliament Tuesday morning.
While being brought to the Kiambu Road Headquarters, the Kiambu Senator claimed to have gotten a phone call from Koimburi, but he did not reveal the reason for his detention.
Thang’wa claims that the MP was unable to determine whether the arrest was lawful or an abduction because the detectives had not explained to him why he was being taken in.
The two are among the most ardent followers of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, and they have experienced the repercussions of their actions.
Ndegwa Njiru, the city attorney, verified the arrest on social media, saying he was defending the MP and that he was being held at the DCI headquarters.
He said that the lawmaker’s arrest was due to comments he made about President William Ruto over the weekend.
During a church service, Koimburi made the damning comments, accusing the President of using public funds to persuade African presidents to support former Prime Minister Raila Odinga as the African Union Commission’s head.
Kenyans are concerned after seeing public dollars being used to buy off people in order to elect Raila Amollo Odinga as the new AU chairman in Addis Ababa. “It’s really unfortunate,” Koimburi said.
After Odinga lost the election to Mahmoud Ali Yousouff of Djibouti on Saturday, February 15, despite the government allegedly pumping millions to support his campaign, Koimburi made the comments.
A charge file states that Koimburi is facing two charges related to the remarks.
