A police officer who was allegedly involved in a shooting incident involving a boda boda rider on Wednesday night has been caught and disarmed. He is employed with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Molo in Nakuru County.
After being shot and suffering injuries, Edwin Keitany is scheduled to have brain surgery on Saturday morning in order to remove the bullet pieces.
The victim has provided the Independent Policing and Oversight Authority (IPOA) with a recorded statement.
The 25-year-old victim is being treated by medical professionals in the male ward at Nairobi Women’s Hospital in Nakuru.
After a fight between the DCI officer and a pillion passenger, Edwin, a boda boda rider, was brought to the hospital on Thursday. He said a police officer shot and hurt him.
“A passenger told me to take her to her home in Ole polos…when we reached, nikampeleka gate ya pili,hii bodaboda nikapata mzee alikuwa anangoja hapo….mama akauliza unalipiwa umetoka wapi saa hii,” Keitany stated.
“Mzee alianza kuniuliza nilmetoka wapi na bibi yake,akaniharass sana, akasema nichukue mahinidn meno na nikaskuma pikipiki mpaka kwake ……nilijipata nableed sana nilingangana pekee yangu hadi nje,” he added.
According to police sources, Sergeant James Kenei, the suspect, is currently being held, and his pistol—which contained 14 9 mm rounds—has been seized.
A CT scan revealed numerous bullet fragments on the right frontal region, and the on-duty resident medical officer reported that the victim had suffered serious soft tissue damage.
