Lawmakers and leaders close to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua attended a funeral service in Kirinyaga on Tuesday, which was dramatic. When a preacher refused to give the leaders a chance to speak, tensions increased.
Unable to control the developing confrontation, the pastor was eventually compelled to leave the celebration as things became more heated.
When Kirinyanga Women Representative Njeri Maina and other leaders, including local Senator Kamau Murango, rushed the platform and demanded permission to address the crowd, emotions swiftly increased.
However, the pastor refused to let the leaders speak to the mourners, who were chanting at the man of the cloth and growing increasingly agitated.
Female pastors who attended the gathering made fruitless attempts to mediate between the parties, as their pleas for a peaceful resolution to the conflict were ignored.
Soon after, the mourners yelled at the pastor for his behavior, forcing him to organize a walkout. They also followed him, with some applauding as they captured brief video snippets of the visibly irate preacher.
When asked by the media why he denied the leaders a platform, the pastor responded that he had given them a chance, but that they had taken advantage of it to further their political agenda.
The pastor further denied allegations that by opposing the leaders associated with the former DP, he was operating in the government’s best interests.
