Machakos MCAs have expressed alarm after their colleague, Dominic Maitha, the Muthwani Ward Member of the County Assembly, is said to have vanished under suspicious circumstances.
The troubled MCA hasn’t been seen in more than a day, according to the leaders, raising concerns over his safety.
Francis Kavyu, a Kinanie MCA, and Peter Kilonzo, a Mbiuni MCA, spoke outside the Machakos County Assembly and pleaded with Maitha’s kidnappers to free him right away.
Due to his recent threat of filing an impeachment case against her, they accused Governor Wavinya Ndeti and the county government of orchestrating his kidnapping.
“We would want to draw the public’s attention to the disappearance of Dominic Maitha Ndonye, Muthwani MCA, one of our colleagues, whose whereabouts have been unknown since yesterday. He talked extensively about the Machakos governor’s impeachment last week. The MCA has been absent for the past fifteen hours, and because both of his phones are off, his friends and family are unable to find him,” Kavyu stated.
“We have no leads despite our desperate calls. We urge the public and law enforcement to expedite his location. Since the Speaker impeachment matter has caused a great deal of concern, the county administration must be aware of his whereabouts and inform us.”
The urgent issue follows growing political tensions in the Machakos County Assembly caused by a group of MCAs who recently signed a resolution to impeach Assembly Speaker Ann Kiusya. According to certain reports, some 30 MCAs withdrew to Mombasa in anticipation of the upcoming vote on Friday.
Speaking last week at a bursary issuance event in Ngalalya, the missing MCA made public threats to demand Governor Ndeti’s impeachment, citing a number of accusations, such as financial mismanagement and anomalies in employment.
Additionally, he charged that the county boss was responsible for the scheme to remove the assembly speaker, claiming that she had bought off most of the MCAs to back the motion.
