Wafula Chebukati, the former chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), reportedly passed away while receiving medical care at a hospital in Nairobi.

His death occurs barely a week after he was treated at home for many days before being admitted to the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Chebukati presided over the 2017 and 2022 elections while serving as the IEBC chairperson for six years, until his retirement in 2023.
