The Milimani Anti-Corruption Court has charged a Huduma Center administrator and a Wajir County head with falsifying national identity documents.
It is said that Chief Abdullahi Abdi Sheikh changed his birthdate from 1997 to 1987. He already had a 1997 birth certificate, but the prosecution says he also used fraudulent information to get a birth entry number.
Sheikh’s identifying data were unlawfully altered by his co-accused, Veronica Njenga, a senior clerical officer at Nairobi City Square Huduma Center. According to the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act, she is also accused of abusing her position.
Njenga’s attorney argued for reasonable release conditions, pointing to her spotless record and nearly three decades of public service.
The accused was given a Ksh. 1.5 million bond by Presiding Magistrate Isabella Barasa, or Ksh. 300,000 in cash bail. Additionally, both were told to turn in their passports.
Next week, the matter will be mentioned for pre-trial instructions.
