Now, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has expressed his willingness to join President William Ruto’s Cabinet if the president makes a public declaration that education is free.
Babu Owino, in response to a question from Kenyans on Wednesday evening, stated that the directive should apply to all levels, including Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary education.
He continued by stating that the President is a beneficiary of free education, clarifying that during Ruto’s undergraduate studies at the University of Nairobi in the 1980s, the government provided him and all other students with grants.
“The only way I would accept a CS Education role in Ruto’s government is if he consents to make Education free. For what reason? Because President Ruto benefited from free education… from Primary to Secondary and University,” Babu said on Citizen TV.
He further remarked that he would have no issue supporting President Ruto if he does his job and fulfills his commitments to the public.
The legislator warned, however, that if he fails, it is his parliamentary duty to oversee him.
“I have no issue supporting Ruto if he performs his duties today; however, if he fails to do so, it is my responsibility as a National Assembly member to monitor him and ensure he follows through.”
After an Infotrak poll ranked him the best overall among the 290 National Assembly members, Babu also discussed his performance as an MP.
With a score of 72 percent, he was closely followed by Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, who scored 71 percent.
During the interview, the MP stated that he is eager to improve upon the 72 percent rating, as it indicates he still has work to do.
He discussed his aspirations to become the Governor of Nairobi in the 2027 general elections, where he aims to succeed Sakaja.
