Juja investigators brought murder suspect Elvis Kibiwot Torotoich before Lady Justice Florence Muchemi, who had been detained for 30 days.
After being formally told of the allegations against him, the second-year student at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) entered a not guilty plea to Belinda Wekesa’s murder.
He was given a Ksh. 500,000 bond by the court.
“The suspect will be held at Nairobi remand until the next mention on May 5th.” if he doesn’t pay the bond,” Muchemi decided.
According to detectives, on February 7, 2025, 19-year-old Belinda, a second-year student at Uzuri Institute in Thika, was discovered dead after Torotoich invited her to his leased property in Juja.
Investigators said the deceased got into a fight with another man when she was in the apartment with her lover, Toroitich.
Toroitich allegedly attacked Belinda and tried to knife the other man during the heated argument. The guy allegedly pursued Belinda and shoved her off the fourth story as she rushed towards the balcony.
According to witnesses, Toroitich tried to hide her body in order to hide the crime following the tragic fall.
CCTV footage that documents the events leading up to her death is essential to the investigation. Investigators are reviewing the video and taking testimony from a witness who saw the event happen.
