Kalonzo Musyoka, the leader of the Wiper Party, has declared intentions to convene with all officials of the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Coalition, encompassing members from both the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and Jubilee parties.
The meeting comes in the wake of a High Court ruling from yesterday that identified the Azimio coalition as the majority coalition in the National Assembly.
A three-judge panel consisting of Justices John Chigiti, Jairus Ngaah, and Lawrence Mugambi rejected Speaker Moses Wetang’ula’s declaration of Kenya Kwanza as the majority coalition, labeling it a violation of the Constitution.
The court’s landmark ruling stated that Wetang’ula acted unreasonably by declaring 14 members of the Azimio coalition as new members of Kenya Kwanza.
Meanwhile, during a Saturday afternoon funeral service in Kitui County, Kalonzo disclosed that he had called former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and former President Uhuru Kenyatta the previous day to talk about the next steps.
While addressing the mourners, the Azimio Principal revealed that he had called the two leaders to talk about the upcoming meeting on Wednesday, where the coalition principals will make decisions about what actions to take.
Kalonzo revealed that the meeting will include all parliamentarians registered under the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition to restructure roles according to the court ruling.
Kalonzo remarked that the previous day’s High Court decision was a significant humiliation for many politicians in the Kenya Kwanza coalition, while also criticizing President William Ruto’s government.
The ex-vice president stated that the court’s ruling also served as punishment for most former Azimio politicians who left the coalition because they did not have faith in or believe in the political outfit.
“To those who lauded Ruto, I’m aware you’re feeling uncomfortable; exercising patience and waiting would have been better.” The Wiper party leader stated, “I recommend that these friends who rushed to join Ruto engage in introspection.”
Additionally, Kalonzo criticized four ODM politicians—current Cabinet Secretaries John Mbadi, Opiyo Wandayi, Hassan Joho, and Wycliffe Oparanya—who became part of Ruto’s broad-based cabinet in August following the anti-youth protests.
The leader of the Wiper Party specifically targeted Energy and Petroleum CS Opiyo Wandayi with a jab, suggesting that he might be on the verge of an embarrassing moment in wake of the court ruling.
