Kawira Mwangaza, a former governor of Meru, has charged that the administration of President William Ruto was involved in her dismissal.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday night, Mwangaza asserted that she was impeached for defying political manipulators who wanted to take use of her position for their own self-serving ends.
Mwangaza claimed that the current leadership targeted her because she refused to compromise her beliefs and that the impeachment was a politically driven plot rather than a valid reason.
She continued by calling her impeachment process a farce and claiming that male politicians were largely responsible for her removal by manipulating the system.
Mwangaza asserted, “My removal was a calculated move by political rivals and the National Government, who sought to punish me for refusing to be politically manipulated, rather than a reflection of the people’s will.”
“I remained steadfast in my commitment to serving the people of Meru with integrity, transparency, and accountability during my tenure as Governor,” she continued.
In a jab at the Kenya Kwanza administration, the former governor said that the administration purposefully manipulated the results, making sure that the opinions of Meru citizens who chose her were disregarded, rather than following the law.
Mwangaza promised to use every legal option to clear her identity and bring attention to the wrongs she said had been done to her during the press conference.
She also urged everyone in Kenya to join her in denouncing what she called the present administration’s flagrant misuse of power, including civil society organizations and the foreign world.
“I will be pursuing every legal and constitutional option to contest this injustice in the days ahead. In order to guarantee that their needs are satisfied and their views are heard, I will also keep interacting with the people of Meru,” Mwangaza stated.
Mwangaza’s remarks were made just five days after the High Court affirmed the Senate’s impeachment ruling, stating that her removal by parliament was lawful.
On March 14, Justice Bahati Mwamuye denied her plea, claiming that the impeachment procedure was conducted in accordance with the law.
