In Mombasa, police are probing an event from Friday, February 7, in which a Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer was allegedly fatally stabbed outside a hospital.
Witnesses reported that the military officer was at a private hospital in Likoni, Mombasa County, to visit a female patient and was accompanied by a group of friends.
Shortly after the doctor visited the patient, a dispute broke out among them, prompting hospital security to remove them from the premises.
The quarrel, which started as a light argument, escalated quickly into a physical confrontation, and it was during the scuffle that the soldier was stabbed.
A police report indicated that the soldier of the Kenya Navy was allegedly stabbed in the abdomen and died from the injury while being taken to the hospital.
While addressing the press after the incident, police noted that they had initiated a manhunt for the two suspects who are currently at large. The police also disclosed that they were endeavoring to understand the motive for the attack.
The deceased’s body has been relocated to the Pandya mortuary in Likoni while awaiting an autopsy and further investigations.
In recent years, the puzzling killings of KDF soldiers and police officers have seemingly become commonplace, illustrating a troubling trend for President William Ruto’s administration.
Last August, in an incident that was nearly alike, a police officer was violently killed by a stabbing during a fierce clash at a bar located in Embakasi, within Nairobi County.
A police report states that the victim was with friends at a Kalenjin night when the disturbance started, resulting in his death. The bar owner swiftly alerted the police, who hurried to the location and discovered the body of their colleague lying lifeless on the ground.
The officers who spoke shortly after seeing their colleague’s body firsthand disclosed that the deceased had severe head wounds, possibly inflicted by a sharp object.
