Less than a month after his widely reported entrance at Cape Media’s TV47 station on Muthaiga North Road, renowned television broadcaster Ken Mijungu has left the station.
Mijungu left after the management approved his request for an early contract termination, which he had made just days after joining TV47, according to a letter dated February 22 that Cape Media CEO Lilian Makandi obtained and signed.
On Friday, February 21, Mijungu formally requested time off from work to consider his involvement with the company in a letter to the management.
An excerpt from the letter stated, “We acknowledge receipt of your email dated February 21, 2025, in which you requested time off to reflect on your engagement with the company.”
After giving it some thought, management has decided to cancel the January 31, 2025, Service Agreement. The date of this decision’s implementation is February 22, 2025. ”
In her letter, Cape Media CEO Makandi, however, wished Mijungu luck and stated that the station would be thrilled to collaborate with him should he change his mind.
Despite this development, we would be happy to discuss potential futures with you. The letter further stated, “The management wishes you the best in your future endeavors.”
Mijungu did not reply to our mails, therefore our attempts to get in touch with him for comment were unsuccessful.
On Friday, February 7, 2025, however, the TV station’s social media pages revealed that he had been hired by TV47.
“I did not renew my contract,” Mijungu said in a statement following his resignation from KTN, indicating that his departure was due to a contract issue.
In addition to being a journalist, Mijungu is also a lawyer. He started his career at CCTV Africa before joining Mediamax Network Ltd., where he spent almost four years working at K24. He worked there as a talk show host, business discussion anchor, and news desk reporter.
Prior to joining Standard Media Group in 2020 as a news anchor and current affairs host, he was a senior reporter for Nation Media Group (NTV).
