Two guys have been taken into custody by Nairobi detectives for allegedly defrauding a Chinese national out of Ksh. 6.5 million at Rose Gardens in Kileleshwa by pretending to be bitcoin exchange specialists.

Days after perpetrating the crime on February 20, 2025, detectives from Kilimani Police Station apprehended Benson Macharia and Robinson Okwemo Nyandoro.

The two conned the foreigner into thinking they would exchange his lump sum, but Nyandoro, the second suspect, stole the money in a carrier bag, according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Before disappearing into thin air, the first suspect, who at the time was wearing a technician’s face, continued to reassure the victim that everything was proceeding according to plan.

After the victim filed a report at Kileleshwa Police Station, investigators quickly investigated the situation and began a manhunt for the two, which resulted in Macharia’s apprehension and arraignment at Kibera Magistrate’s Court.

He pled not guilty to the accusations and was consequently released on a Ksh.1 million bond, with a guarantee of a similar amount.

Two days later, Nyandoro was captured at The Hub, a well-known shopping center in Karen, where investigators also found Ksh.500,000, which was thought to be a portion of the stolen sum.
