A Kenyan police officer who is part of the multinational security force in Haiti has gone missing.
The Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission to Haiti announced in a statement that the officer went missing during an ambush by gang members in Pont-Sonde.
Specialized teams have since been sent in to seek for him and find out where he is.
After one of the Haitian National Police’s (HNP) armored vehicles on patrol along the Carrefour Paye-Savien Main Supply Route became trapped in a ditch and another experienced a technical problem, the Haitian gang attacked the cops.
“To help with the recovery, two MSS Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles from Pont-Sonde were sent out in response,” MSS stated.
According to the MSS, gangs purposefully excavated the ditch before setting up an ambush.
“Suspected gang members who were waiting in the area attacked as the rescue crews tried to address the problem. One MSS Kenyan contingent officer is still missing as a result of the event,” the statement continued.
