As more people in Kisii County continue to become ill, efforts to find and treat a strange ailment have became more intense. Health ministry officials are looking into village water sources as a possible culprit after at least 20 additional people were admitted with identical symptoms. According to Brenda Wanga.
A mother and her sick three-year-old seek respite from symptoms such as headaches, exhaustion, stomachaches, and diarrhea as the peculiar ailment enters its third week in Kisii County.
A young woman nearby writhes in agony as her condition deteriorates due to bloody diarrhea and a dangerously elevated fever.
As medical professionals work to identify the disease’s cause, these are just a handful of the people that are flooding hospitals.
Kennedy Omari, the County Health Promotion Officer, stated, “We have been moving around, and so far, we have rushed 20 more people to various hospitals,”
For several days, others have been undergoing therapy. After three days of treatment, 60-year-old John Obara reports that he is starting to feel better.
“We are pleading with the government not to abandon us and to act swiftly in handling situations like this,” John Obara said.
The search into the disease’s cause and genesis has accelerated as patients obtain treatment. Together with their Kisii County colleagues, officers from the Ministry of Health headquarters in Nairobi have embarked on a fact-finding tour in Amarongo, one of the impacted settlements. The local water sources have been the focus of their inquiry as they look for hints that can help solve the illness’s mystery.
The Chief Health Officer of Kisii County, Dr. Richard Onkware, stated, “We have enlisted a team from Nairobi to determine the situation, and we are also anticipating a report from the government chemist tomorrow.”
The impacted villages’ residents are demanding that the probes be accelerated.
“The fact that this is being caused by our water still amazes me.” South Mugirango resident Eunice Ombasa stated, “We keep going to the hospital, but no one knows what is ailing us.”
Nyabigege resident Robert Masese stated, “The health department has come here, but what we want most is for the government to speed up the investigations so we can understand what is troubling us.”
