KNEC: 2024 Competency-Based Assessments (CBA) Dates for Grade 3, 4 and 5
The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has released detailed guidelines for the administration of the 2024 Competency-Based Assessments (CBA).
These assessments consist of the Kenya Foundation Level Education Assessment (KFLEA) for the Stage-Based Pathway and the Kenya Early Years Assessment (KEYA) for Grade 3.
Additionally, School-Based Assessments (SBA) for Grades 4 and 5 and Intermediate Level for the Stage-Based Pathway will be conducted.
Accessing the Assessment Portal
Headteachers are required to log into the CBA portal to access the assessment tools. Any schools experiencing password issues should contact their Sub-County Director of Education for assistance.
Administration and Scoring
Schools are expected to administer the assessment tools, score them, and upload the outcomes to the CBA portal within the specified timeframe. The assessment tools will be provided in both PDF and digital formats to facilitate this process.
Formats of SBA Tools
The SBA tools will be available in two formats:
- PDF Format:
- Schools will log in using their credentials to access and download the tools.
- Tools can be presented to learners via print, screen projection, or writing on the board.
- Learners may write their responses on the question paper or other writing materials provided by the school.
- Digital Format:
- Learners will log onto the portal with their assessment numbers to access the tools on digital devices such as Digital Learning Programme (DLP) tablets.
- Responses should be written on materials provided by the school.
Additional Guidelines
- Teachers will score learners using the provided guidelines and assess performance-based tasks.
- A detailed user manual is available on the CBA portal.
- It is recommended that tools with color images be printed in color or transferred onto digital devices.
- Inadequate digital devices in schools can lead to assessments being conducted in shifts.
- Headteachers must keep all records and evidence from the assessments.
- Assessment materials should be sourced from the immediate school environment or improvised.
