The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) Timetable & Instructions for the 2024 School Based Assessment (SBA) for the Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE) – Year 1 – SBA 1
General Instructions
- KNEC will conduct the School Based Assessment (SBA) for teacher trainees pursuing the Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE), who have been registered by their respective colleges.
- Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs) can access the necessary tools by logging into the KNEC portal using their assigned college username and password.
- DPTE SBA subjects that include project or practical components, along with relevant instructions, will be available for download on the KNEC portal. Written assessments will be conducted through the CBATE e-assessment system from July 8 to July 12, 2024.
- The KNEC e-assessment portal will be accessible exclusively to the teacher candidates who have been identified by the Centre Managers.
- Teacher trainers are required to score the assessments using the provided scoring/marking guides.
- Scoring guides and marking schemes for subjects with project and practical components will be uploaded alongside the assessment tools.
- TTCs must upload the teacher trainees’ assessment scores for projects and practicals onto the CBATE portal by August 2, 2024. For Agriculture projects, scores should be uploaded by November 30, 2024.
- Principals should keep proper records of all trainees’ assessment outcomes.
- The materials required for assessment tasks should be sourced from the immediate college environment or improvised as needed.
- Teacher trainees should be seated in the assessment room 30 minutes before the scheduled time for each paper. Assessments will only be given to latecomers in exceptional circumstances if they are more than 30 minutes late. Punctuality is crucial for all papers.
- Principals must inform all teacher trainees taking DPTE at their college about these instructions.
