Candidates for the 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) Examination have been informed by the Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) that registration for the November papers has opened.

The registration period began on February 17 and will end on March 28, 2025, per a circular issued on Tuesday and sent to school principals and sub-county directors of education.

Additionally, KNEC emphasized that the activity will only be carried out online, requiring schools to use their examination center login credentials to access the KNEC portal at www.knec-portal.ac.ke.

In addition to the statement, KNEC provided a number of rules that the institutions had to adhere to when registering.

First of all, principals were told that they were in charge of registering their students and that everyone who registered might take the test.

They were cautioned, nevertheless, that registering students who did not exist would be regarded as exam misconduct, which is punishable by law.

A portion of the letter stated that “registering ghost candidates is an examination malpractice that carries penalties, including the school’s de-registration as a KNEC examination center.”

Candidates were asked to familiarize themselves with the KNEC Rules and Regulations (2015) and the User Guide for Management of KCSE Examination (2nd Edition 2024) regarding the topic entrance requirements for grading.

These are available at www.knec.ac.ke/downloads, the KNEC website.

As there would be no changes made after the registration time closed, the candidates were also instructed to provide their accurate passport-size photos (300 × 300 pixels).

They had to make sure that all of their registration information was accurately recorded, including their gender, citizenship, year of birth, first, second, or third attempt entry codes, birth certificate number, and topics they were registered for.

Candidates with special needs were encouraged to correctly mark their categories as well.

This would be ‘B’ for applicants who need Braille and ‘LV’ for those who need large print.
