General Instructions for Candidates:

  1. Five minutes prior to the commencement of the examination, ensure that you are situated in the Examination Room. All sessions commence at 8:00 a.m.
  2. The supervisor must be provided with a satisfactory explanation by individuals who arrive late. Papers will not be distributed to individuals who arrive more than 30 minutes after the scheduled time, unless there are exceptional circumstances. Particularly for papers such as Shorthand, punctuality is indispensable.
  3. If you are provided with an incorrect paper or lacking materials, please notify your supervisor immediately.
  4. Adhere to any general instructions provided at the beginning of a paper, such as the number of queries that must be answered.
  5. On the initial page of each answer book or document, include your name, index number, and paper name. The index number should be plainly written in the designated space on each sheet.
  6. Avoid the margins and write on both sides of the paper. Begin each section of a query on a separate line.
  7. The question number should be clearly indicated in the left margin at the outset of each answer. Please refrain from copying the query. Utilize the numbering system specified on the question paper and ensure that a vacant line is left after each response.
  8. Pencils are exclusively for diagrams; utilize black or blue ink. Spelling and handwriting will be assessed. Bring the requisite equipment for the pertinent subjects.
  9. To prevent squandering time on irrelevant information, it is crucial to thoroughly read the queries.
  10. Ensure that you allocate sufficient time to address all inquiries that are within your capacity.
  11. Arrange your answer sheets in the order in which you answered them at the conclusion of the exam, ensuring that your index number is present on each document. Submit them unfolded to the supervisor by fastening them at the left-hand corner.
  12. Before any papers are collected, the Council must be informed of any withdrawals from the examination.

Cautions to Candidates:

  1. Do not leave the examination room before the allocated time ends without supervisor permission. Permitted candidates cannot take the question paper out of the room.
  2. Ensure your answers are not visible to other candidates to prevent unfair assistance. Avoid any form of cheating.
  3. No communication between candidates or with outsiders is allowed during the exam.
  4. Possession of any unauthorized materials, except the correct question paper and authorized materials by the Kenya National Examinations Council, is prohibited.
  5. Only use mathematical tables provided by the Council, without additional notes. Slide rulers must not contain any formulae or data giving unfair advantage. Confirm with the supervisor if unsure.
  6. Return any incorrect question paper immediately to the supervisor.
  7. Do not take any used or unused writing paper out of the examination room. Any rough work should be left on the desk to be collected and destroyed by the supervisor.
  8. Disorderly conduct or causing disturbances near the examination room is considered a serious irregularity.
  9. Mobile phones are prohibited in the examination room and centre. Possession will result in the cancellation of results.

Penalty for Examination Irregularities:

  1. The KNEC Act 2012 rules and regulations, sections 27 to 40, apply to examination irregularities. Key points include:
    • A candidate found guilty of an irregularity in any paper will have the results for the entire subject canceled.
    • If widespread irregularities occur at any centre, all examination results for that centre will be canceled.
    • Unauthorized access to examination materials and revealing their content results in imprisonment (up to 10 years), a fine (up to two million shillings), or both.
    • Malicious damage to examination materials results in imprisonment (up to 2 years), a fine (up to five million shillings), or both.
    • Impersonation in the exam results in imprisonment (up to one year), a fine (up to two million shillings), or both, and a three-year ban from Council examinations.

Candidates are strongly advised to avoid any malpractice that could lead to these penalties.
