Fifteen universities have been highlighted by the Commission for University Education for engaging in unlawful activities in Kenya.
The CUE warned Kenyans in a notification that any academic credentials provided by the universities would be considered fraudulent.
Eldoret Bible College, Bradgate International University, Al-Munawwarah College, Grace Life Bible College, Africa Theological Seminary, Kenya Anglican University, and The East African University are among the establishments mentioned.
These include Northwestern Christian University, Logos University, Harvest Land University, Breakthrough Bible College, Theophilus Theological College, Baraton College, The Africa Talent University, Word of Faith Bible College, and Regions Beyond Ministry Bible College.
The Commission also recognized 79 institutions with letters of interim authority, private and public universities, and colleges that are constituents of private universities that are permitted to function in Kenya.
The notification was sent out weeks after Northwestern Christian University’s graduation ceremony in Mombasa was raided by police and CUE officials because it was not accredited.
As a result, the university’s officials were jailed and 100 degrees were canceled.
Prof. Chacha Nyaigotti, chair of CUE, reiterated the commission’s responsibility to zero down on illicit institutions across the country after the raid.
“It is our responsibility to stop this legal violation when we discover that you (institutions) are posing as respectable organizations that offer programs leading to master’s and bachelor’s degrees,” he stated.
