After their kid supposedly passed away last Saturday under mysterious circumstances, the parents of a Form Two pupil at a Makueni school are furiously upset. But the school didn’t notify the parents that their son had passed away for over three days.
According to the family, they didn’t learn of their son’s passing until Monday, February 10 at 5 p.m., over three days after his body was found floating in the school pool.
We were informed that on Saturday, February 8, our child had passed away. The father of the child asserted, “They did not reveal knowledge of our son’s death from Saturday, Sunday, and Monday.”
Our son was taken up by the police in a poor condition and appeared to have passed away, so we didn’t get a call until Monday, February 10, at 5:00 p.m., ordering us to head straight to the school,” he continued.
The family also accused the school administration of planning to sabotage the post-mortem investigations by arranging for a last-minute switch in the pathologist to do the examination.
The family of the dead accused the owner of the school and investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) of conspiring to delay their son’s post-mortem during protests at the mortuary of Makindu Sub-County Hospital.
According to the family, the school changed their objectives after they had already hired a pathologist to perform the post-mortem.
Since everything was ready and meticulously planned, including by the DCI, we had brought the pathologist along. We didn’t find out about the new development until we got there. The child’s father said, “The DCI said they were waiting for a pathologist from Nairobi.”
The decision to delay the post-mortem was influenced by the school’s owner, who stated that he did not trust the pathologist that the bereaved family had chosen. The family, however, denied this.
“The school would have collaborated with the DCI and hospital to find out the child’s cause of death. On the day the child died, the hospital ought to have been prepared so they could explain what had happened to us. A grieving family member bemoaned, “Why were they keeping information from us and making us go around in circles?”
However, the medical superintendent of the hospital clarified that a fresh date for the post-mortem had already been established and that DCI authorities had asked for a government pathologist.
Nevertheless, the deceased’s family has rejected the recent development and demanded that the story be put to a swift conclusion. The new date for the post-mortem is Tuesday, February 18.
