New conflict is emerging among some Members of Parliament (MP) who are aligned with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, the Azimio coalition, and President William Ruto regarding government appointments.

The MPs have charged President Ruto with neglecting certain areas in terms of government appointments.

Stephen Mugaka, the West Mugirango MP, and Gitonga Mukunji, his Manyatta counterpart, criticized President William Ruto for neglecting the Gusii region in government appointments following his alliance with Raila Odinga in the Broad-based government.

During a funeral service at Kebirigo Central SDA church in West Mugirango on Friday, the leaders criticized the president for excluding them, despite his promise to create a united and inclusive government.

The leaders also supported the idea of Fred Matiangi, the former Interior Cabinet Secretary, potentially running for president.

MP Makunji disclosed that the time had come for the community to unite and have their leaders in key government roles.

Discussions have emerged regarding the possibility of Fred Matiang’i, the former Interior CS, running for president in 2027. Leaders from Jubilee have already endorsed his supposed presidential campaign.

Their worries arose months after other regional leaders accused Ruto of supposedly retracting funding for crucial initiatives, especially in infrastructure.

The leaders charged the national government with stopping an airport project that was planned to start in 2022.
