The death of a fugitive murder suspect, who reportedly jumped to his death while trying to evade police capture in Nandi County, is surrounded by mysteries.
To disperse the chaotic residents attempting to prevent the arrest on Monday night, the security officers had no choice but to fire shots into the air.
The police were acting on intelligence reports regarding the resurfacing of a suspect named Dennis Kipyego at his home in Sang’alo village during the dramatic incident.
According to Nandi North Police Commander Simon Muli, officers from Chemundu Police Station surrounded the house where Dennis had locked himself in and tried to besiege him.
The police state that Dennis declined to open the door and instead leaped from the roof, resulting in severe injuries.
Muli stated that the suspect was brought to Kapsabet County Referral Hospital for treatment but, unfortunately, succumbed to their injuries.
“He ultimately smashed through the rooftop and leaped from the house, but sadly landed on a sharp object that caused fatal injuries to his abdomen. He stated, “The officers transported the suspect to Kapsabet County Referral Hospital, where he was declared dead on Tuesday morning while receiving treatment.”
Kaiboi National Polytechnic student Dennis was the main suspect in a murder that took place last December at Chemuswa.
The police report suggests that Dennis was involved in the murder of his step-brother due to a chaotic dispute over family land succession.
The initial investigation revealed that he was significantly involved in carrying out the atrocious deed.
The event took place in December of the previous year, and throughout this time, the fleeing suspect has been evading the police’s dragnet.
For most of Tuesday morning, residents of Sang’alo village staged protests regarding the police raid and questioned the cause of Dennis’ death. The residents expressed worry about spent cartridges found outside the suspect’s house, thinking that the police had shot the suspect before taking him to the hospital.
As the investigation began, a contingent of police was dispatched to manage the situation.
James Mutai, a relative of the deceased, stated that the cause of Dennis’s death is unclear and urged for further investigation.
