Ahead of important elections, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has endorsed Raila Odinga, Kenya’s candidate for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship.

On Friday morning, Gachagua expressed his support on social media, stating that Raila is the perfect candidate to lead the AUC into the future.

There is no doubt that Odinga represents the best chance for securing the chairmanship of the African Union Commission. He remarked, “Africa deserves the best.”

The ex-Deputy President is of the opinion that Raila’s leadership will foster unity among Africa’s regions, drawing on his perspective and steadfast advocacy for African people.

He underscored the necessity of a leader capable of connecting Africa’s Anglophone and Francophone communities, thereby crafting a united continent for the future.

As Gachagua himself puts it, the basis of his endorsement of Raila is that Gachagua’s victory in Ethiopia will serve to confirm his Pan-African spirit and vision.

In the Ethiopian capital, heads of state will cast their votes on Saturday to choose the next Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of the AUC.

According to the AU regulations, a secret ballot is utilized for voting, which will persist until one candidate receives two-thirds of the votes from the 55 AU member states (33 votes in total).

On February 15 and 16, Raila will compete against Mahmoud Ali Youssouf from Djibouti and Richard Randriamandrato from Madagascar.
