After more than 20 fisherman were killed on Saturday at Todoyang, close to Lake Turkana, police have increased security along the Kenya-Ethiopia border.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen told reporters Sunday that police had been called in and had effectively defused the situation.

Following the incident involving Ethiopian Dassanech community members and Kenyan people in the Lopeimukat area last evening, the government has increased security along the Kenya-Ethiopia border, according to Murkomen. successfully

In an effort to negotiate peace between the two communities, the ministry has started talks with the Ethiopian government.

An altercation between Turkana and Dassanach fisherman at Lopemukat Common Waters has also been recorded by the National Police.

To keep the situation from getting worse, police have asked locals to maintain their composure while performing their duties.

Although rumors indicate that the death toll may increase as efforts to find some missing fishermen continue, the ministry has not yet released precise statistics on casualties.

Raymond Omollo, the principal secretary for internal security, cautioned the public against making a big deal out of the matter.
