Investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have begun looking into a Nairobi police officer who shot and killed his coworker.
During the early hours of Sunday, February 23, a cop in Ruaraka opened fire on his colleague, instantly killing him.
A police report states that an altercation broke out between the two cops as they were leaving an entertainment establishment.
The deceased officer, who is assigned to the General Service Unit, got into a fight with his coworker when he was with his brother.
The cop pulled out his gun and shot his colleague dead as the debate turned into a physical altercation.
The shooter tried to flee in a panic during the 1:00 am incident, but was apprehended by bystanders who were eager for his blood.
After suffering minor injuries in the event, the rogue officer was also brought to a nearby medical facility, and the deceased’s body was taken to the mortuary at Kenyatta University.
Although instances of officers betraying their coworkers are not unusual, they have increased recently. According to experts, this is mostly due to mental health issues that security agency personnel face.
When a plainclothes police officer was seen on camera shooting at members of the public at close range during the height of anti-Finance Bill demonstrations in June of last year, Kenyans were incensed.
