The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is in trouble after George Aladwa, the chairperson of the party’s Nairobi branch, made comments on Sunday implying that Secretary General Edwin Sifuna might be fired for treason.
Aladwa accused Sifuna of being a mole in the party during a press conference on Saturday in Nairobi, claiming that he had expressed plans to align himself with opposing viewpoints.
The Makadara MP went on to say that ODM had previously had strong Secretary Generals who left the party after deviating from its ideals.
I wish to caution Sifuna, who calls himself the Secretary General of ODM, that there have been a number of extremely powerful SGs in the past, including Ababu Namwamba and others. “Even he will follow Ababu’s path,” Aladwa said.
Aladwa’s words followed the Nairobi senator’s recent declaration that, even if the ODM party chose to endorse President William Ruto in the 2027 elections, he would not.
Sifuna emphasized in a national television interview that he could not be convinced to back Ruto by anyone, not even the party’s Nairobi leadership during Aladwa’s rule.
In his reply, Aladwa claimed that Sifuna’s time as a senator was running out and urged the senator to avoid bringing him up.
Aladwa also charged Sifuna with surreptitiously collaborating behind the scenes with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
His comments came after Sifuna recently attended a church service in Kawangware with opposition leaders Eugene Wamalwa and Kalonzo Musyoka, who have both previously indicated that they would be open to working with Gachagua.
The Makadara MP said that Sifuna was being promoted by a Gachagua-aligned party as the front-runner for Nairobi’s governorship.
Even during the former DP’s impeachment, he caused us a great deal of grief and is being used by Gachagua. Aladwa claimed, “He simply cast his ballot because people were doing so and we know that he is their favorite candidate for the governor’s seat here in Nairobi.”
