President William Ruto has denied the allegations made by Controller of Budget Margret Nyakango, who recently disclosed that the government spent Ksh104.8 billion on the Social Health Authority (SHA) system even though it did not own it.
Speaking Tuesday at Malava MP Malulu Injendi’s funeral, Ruto denied the accusations, claiming they were lies spread by the media and social media users.
He adamantly said that the government had not invested a single dime in the system and promised that this would not happen again.
The Head of State claims that brokers who benefited from the now-defunct National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) are the ones opposed to the SHA system, which has been receiving criticism for its teething issues.
Ruto further disclosed that 40% of the claims submitted to the now-defunct NHIF were false, with the owners resorting to defrauding the government.
In the meanwhile, the President declared that the government will move forward with its choice to assign all of the claims to SHA to a group of IT businesses.
He claims that the ruling will allow the government to safeguard contributions made to SHA by citizens.
This occurred at the same time as the Union of Kenya Civil Servants (UKCS) and the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) demanded a comprehensive reform of the SHA’s management, failing which they would launch an industrial action.
