The renaming of Sabata Secondary School in Trans Nzoia County in honor of former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairperson Wafula Chebukati has been ordered by President William Ruto.
During Chebukati’s funeral in Kiminini Constituency on Saturday, March 8, Ruto gave local MP Maurice Kakai instructions to make sure the institution’s name is changed in the deceased’s honor.
The head of state also told the mourning that the government would pay for the building of 15 additional classrooms at the school.
Because of this, I agree with your local MP that the surrounding school’s name should be altered, and I will oversee the building of 15 additional classrooms at the establishment,” Ruto declared.
The president claims that in recognition of Chebuati’s exceptional work at IEBC, where he used technology to guarantee electoral credibility, the school will also get a new Information Communication Technology (ICT) hub.
Ruto reaffirmed that the former IEBC Chairperson made the most of his vast ICT expertise to guarantee that the 2022 election was free and fair for all Kenyans, even in the face of threats on his life made by a group of high-ranking government officials from the previous administration.
“Because Chebukati used his computer expertise to ensure the integrity of the Kenyan elections, the classrooms will be constructed alongside the ICT hubs you mentioned,” the president said.
While in mourning for the former IEBC Chairperson, the head of state called the deceased a Kenyan hero who prioritized the nation, a pioneer, and a history-maker.
Ruto claimed that Chebukati was a brave, strong, and self-reliant guy whose moral character was demonstrated in the general elections of 2022.
Ruto also emphasized the government’s dedication to resolving the issues at the Social Health Authority (SHA) during the funeral. He continued by expressing his faith in Health Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa’s endeavors to address the nation’s health crisis.
