Opposition politicians who attended the Meru County launch of Martha Karua’s People’s Liberation Party (PLP) have come under fire from President William Ruto, who claims they used the occasion to disparage him.
On Friday, February 28, when speaking in Taita Taveta County, Ruto attacked the opposition for allegedly turning the discussion of their meeting from their political agenda to criticism of his government.
Ruto raised doubts about the motivations of Karua, Kalonzo Musyoka, and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who were present during the party inauguration.
President Ruto chastised the opposition leaders for supposedly wasting more time attacking him than concentrating on the meeting’s primary objective. He asked them to refrain from political assaults and instead focus on productive dialogue that attends to Kenyans’ concerns.
“Yesterday, I witnessed some individuals attempting to start a political party. They discussed William Ruto for four hours. I would like to know if the party was founded for Ruto or if it is known as the Ruto Party.” Ruto uttered those words.
“Ruto alone is their manifesto and agenda. I want them to know that I didn’t send them to discuss myself. Find a party, name it, and deliver a manifesto,” he continued.
In addition, the Head of State charged that the three leaders were fostering tribalism rather than resolving Kenyans’ complaints and coming up with constructive answers.
Ruto asserted that the aforementioned leaders would inevitably fail politically unless they turned their attention to more crucial issues, such pertinent development discussions.
“They shouldn’t try to sell us tribalism because the cost has decreased, I want to tell them. The Head of State said, “I implore them to concentrate on important issues, such as their strategy for Kenyans.”
Following Gachagua’s remarks at Karua’s party launch, where he criticized the president for what he called a “culture of lies by the Head of State,” Ruto’s remarks follow suit.
Speaking to the crowd on Thursday, February 27, Gachagua asserted that Ruto had succeeded in deceiving the clergy, who he said had uniformly supported Ruto’s 2022 presidential campaign, as well as other members of the populace.
The former Deputy President claims that Ruto destroyed the health and education systems in a record two years and made living expenses intolerable for a large number of Kenyans.
“I have never seen a liar like Ruto since I was born. The former Deputy President claimed, “This man lies without hesitation and looks you in the eye.”
