TSC Salary Breakdown for 3rd Batch of Deployed P1 Teachers to JSS

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) plans to assign its third batch of qualified PTE (P1) teachers to junior high school classrooms beginning in July 2024.

The objective of this initiative is to address the severe teacher shortage that exists in junior secondary institutions. According to Nancy Macharia, the Chief Executive of TSC, the current number of teachers in junior high schools is 56,928, but the actual requirement is 99,045.

TSC advertised 6,000 deployment positions to resolve this issue, encouraging primary school teachers with secondary education degrees to submit their applications online by March 18, 2024.

Verification and Posting Process

At the commencement of the new term, the Sub-County Directors will verify the documents of the selected candidates and assign them to classrooms.

The TSC headquarters will conduct a meticulous examination of these documents to guarantee that only certified teachers with legitimate qualifications are deployed. Successful candidates are required to submit a variety of documents, such as:

  • Original degree or diploma certificate
  • All original academic transcripts
  • Original SNE qualification (if applicable)
  • Latest payslip (clear copy)

  • Employment confirmation from the head of the institution

The employment confirmation letter must state that the teacher is not under disciplinary action or interdiction.

Deployment Timeline

The third batch of P1 teachers will report for the second semester in May 2024, following the deployment of the first and second batches to a variety of locations.

Remuneration for Deployed Teachers

The P1 teachers who have been deployed will be eligible to instruct students in Grades 7 and 8 under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). To facilitate timely payment, TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia directed Sub-County Directors and Primary Headteachers to ensure the expeditious discharge and receipt of these teachers. The posting procedure is anticipated to commence immediately upon the assignment of teachers to junior secondary schools by County Directors. To facilitate the filing of Entry Reports by the receiving institutions, Heads of Institution (HOI) are required to promptly submit Exit Reports.

Online Reporting Module

All posting, entry, and departure reports must be submitted online through the Posting, Entry/departure Reports Module. Hard copy submissions are no longer acknowledged or processed by the Commission. The data suggests that the majority of the teachers who have been deployed are from job group C1, while the remaining teachers are from job groups C3 and C4.
