A famous ‘park and chill’ location off Thika Road in the Mugutha neighborhood of Juja sub-county was the scene of two university students drowning after a fun-filled day out.
Because cars frequently park on a slope that overlooks the lake, the area, which is well-known for its picturesque dam and is adored by outdoor enthusiasts, is seen as especially unsafe.
Two male students, ages 21 and 22, who were enjoying a fun day of swimming at the dam, are the victims, according to a police report.
As the inquiry into the killings progresses, Kiambu County divers removed the bodies from the dam on Sunday and transported them to the General Kago Funeral Home.
The death of a man and a woman in January 2023 after their automobile crashed into the dam brought media attention to this recreational area.
Locals claim that the pair was having fun close to the dam when the incident occurred.
Bystanders reported hearing frantic calls for assistance from the dam at approximately 7:30 p.m.
“A woman was in the sea attempting to swim and save herself when I heard her yelling, but there were no divers nearby. The woman was able to escape through the windows when the car crashed into the dam,” local neighbor Lucy Muthoni told Citizen Digital.
Empty alcohol bottles strewn around the dam’s banks indicate that the region is a well-liked party location that partygoers frequently visit.
Following the drowning incident in 2023, a restaurant and bar were established inside the fenced-in area.
Access to the area, which offered Wi-Fi to revelers, would cost drivers about Ksh. 100.
