Just before the 2027 elections, party officials led by Didmus Barasa, a Kimilili MP, have suggested that former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua would be re-admitted to the ruling United Democratic Alliance/UDA.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua may be permitted to rejoin the party when the time is appropriate, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa said during a Sunday church service at Kapsang’ AIC Church in Uasin Gishu County, which was attended by UDA party members, including Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi.
Although Gachagua was judged unfit for the position of Deputy President, Barasa stated that the party might reevaluate his restoration after his suspension.
Furthermore, he implied that although if Gachagua seems to be choosing a different political route, he would have undergone “rehabilitation” by 2027 and might be allowed to rejoin UDA.
”When the right time comes, even that Rigathi Gachagua who we impeached we will bring him back when we require him. He was only unsuitable to serve our country as the Deputy President but he can be suitable to be a voter, to be a member of our coalition because am sure he will undergo some rehabilitation,” Barasa stated.
Additionally, the politician proposed that the former lawmaker be assigned a post upon his or her return to the party in 2027.
He did not, however, clarify if the job would be an internal party position or a state appointment.
Although he seems to be leaving, Gachagua and the UDA party have not yet made an official announcement about his departure.
Gachagua has been actively organizing opposition to the ruling party and its leadership, especially in the Mount Kenya region, since his dismissal as Deputy President—which, according to UDA party rules, also resulted in his loss of his position as deputy party leader, leaving him as an ordinary member.
In November, the former Deputy President’s term came to an end when Kithure Kindiki was inducted into office as the UDA Deputy Party Leader, following Gachagua’s impeachment.
With immediate effect, Prof. Kithure Kindiki was appointed the Deputy Party Leader of the United Democratic Alliance Party by the National Executive Committee.
