Despite accusations of treachery, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has stated that the people of Mount Kenya will forgive President William Ruto, but the region will never forget it.
Speaking during Bishop George Gathari’s consecration service in Nyandarua County’s Olkalou constituency on Saturday, Gachagua pointed out that the Mount Kenya area will conduct extensive consultations prior to selecting the candidate to back.
Before choosing to endorse the chosen candidates, he said, the populous region would also evaluate each leader’s record.
Gachagua claims that after being tricked into backing President Ruto, the Mount Kenya region was ignored by him as soon as he took office.
“I had a friend who we worked with and whom I helped very much, he used to call me Riggy G and Baba Kevin, but now he is pretending not to know me, he is now calling me a tribalist,” Gachagua stated.
“Now we only depend on God because human beings are unpredictable, some of us especially people from this region are now very careful, if someone comes to us now, we will do a thorough background check,” he stated.
In addition to criticizing the government for the rising number of kidnappings, Gachagua made reference to the day’s sermon on forgiveness when he said that those responsible for the kidnappings and killings of young people would likewise be forgiven but never forgotten.
He emphasized that the young Kenyans’ differing views on Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza regime did not justify their kidnapping and even murder.
The former DP also offered his thoughts on the recent removal of his political supporters from important Senate positions, stating that they were now free to criticize the government for blocked regional projects.
Senator Karungo Wa Thang’wa of Kiambu was one of those ousted from their various Senate committee positions; he was removed from his position as the Chairperson of the Roads and Transport Committee.
Together with John Methu, his counterpart from Nyandarua, who was de-whipped from his position as the chair of the Senate’s Lands and Environment Committee and a member of the County Public Accounts Committee, Thagwa was fired.
“My buddy Methu and others who have lost their parliamentary seats shouldn’t be alarmed; those seats are only flowers; the primary seat is the one you occupy on behalf of the Nyandarua people.
“As long as these residents are happy with you, you do not have a problem, so do not be worried about being removed from the position of a committee chairperson in parliament.”
