After being found guilty of corruption allegations, a police inspector was given two consecutive one-year jail sentences or a total fine of Ksh. 650,000.
The Zimmerman Police Post’s Officer-in-Charge, Inspector Susan Wambui Muiruri, was punished Ksh. 300,000 for each of the two corruption charges, with an extra Ksh. 50,000 as a statutory fine. She faces a year in prison for each offense if she doesn’t comply.
According to the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court, the officer unlawfully detained suspects and demanded a Ksh. 10,000 bribe to help a complainant and a detained suspect negotiate.
Subsequent inquiries showed that she had illegally demanded Ksh. 150,000 from the complainant.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has reaffirmed its demand that public servants maintain integrity, highlighting the ways in which corruption erodes the rule of law, drives up living expenses, impedes the development of infrastructure, and prevents residents from accessing the legal system.
