A Malaba court has sentenced Geoffrey Wafula Malunda to life imprisonment after finding him guilty of murdering a boda boda rider, Jeremiah Otwane Papa, on August 17, 2023.
The ruling was delivered by Malaba Law Court Principal Magistrate Ocharo Momanyi who found that the prosecution had enough evidence to link Malunda to the attack that killed Papa and stole his motorbike and phone.
According to court documents, Malunda, with his unknown accomplices who are still at large, attacked Papa near Upland Estate in Malaba town, Busia County. The victim later died from the injuries he sustained during the attack.
After the incident, DCI launched a manhunt for the perpetrators. Investigators managed to track the stolen phone and motorbike which led to the arrest of Malunda in Bungoma County where he had run to after committing the crime.

Despite Malunda being convicted, his co-accused are still at large. Police have confirmed that they are still looking for the remaining suspects.
The court’s verdict is a big blow to the growing insecurity affecting boda boda operators across the country.
