“Babu Owino Will Lose Nairobi!” — Lee Makwiny Warns After Moses Kuria’s 2027 Governor Bombshell

Political analyst Lee Makwiny has issued a bold prediction following Moses Kuria’s shocking declaration that he will run for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in 2027. According to Makwiny, Kuria’s move could completely destabilize the political landscape of the capital and deal a serious blow to Embakasi East MP Babu Owino’s ambitions.

In a detailed political breakdown on his YouTube channel, Makwiny described Kuria’s decision as a “political bombshell” that will likely shift alliances across the city. He believes that while Babu Owino currently enjoys strong support among youthful and ODM-leaning voters, Kuria’s entry could upend that advantage by uniting the Mt. Kenya voting bloc behind him.

“If the elections were held today, Babu Owino would win easily,” Makwiny said. “But Moses Kuria’s entry changes everything. This move will shake both Ruto and Raila camps because Kuria is playing smart politics.”

    Kuria’s Message Sends Political Shockwaves

Moses Kuria’s declaration came through a social media post that quickly went viral. In it, he addressed both President William Ruto and Raila Odinga, saying:

“Nairobi cannot continue being the city of filth, garbage, and incompetence. I will fix Nairobi.”

Makwiny noted that Kuria’s deliberate mention of both leaders was strategic. “He’s appealing to both sides. By referencing Ruto and Raila in one breath, Kuria positions himself as a middle-ground candidate — someone who can appeal across the political divide,” he explained.

This, according to Makwiny, makes Kuria an unpredictable but formidable force in the 2027 race. “He’s not just running for governor. He’s sending a message to both Ruto and Raila that he’s ready to be Nairobi’s political bridge,” he said.

Mt. Kenya Vote Could Decide the Race

The political analyst emphasized that the Mt. Kenya vote will play a decisive role in Nairobi’s 2027 governor race. Nairobi remains one of the most ethnically diverse counties, but the Kikuyu community makes up a significant portion of the electorate.

“Kuria’s hope lies in consolidating the Mt. Kenya vote,” Makwiny said. “If that community decides Nairobi must be under their control, and they unite behind Kuria, then Babu Owino’s chances drop sharply.”

He also observed that Babu Owino’s growing national image might work against him within ODM. “ODM’s leadership isn’t fully comfortable with Babu’s rising independence,” Makwiny added, pointing out that Kuria’s recent meeting with ODM Nairobi chairperson George Aladwa could signal deeper political maneuvering.

    Strategic Positioning for 2027

Makwiny further suggested that Kuria’s announcement might be part of a broader strategy rather than a simple campaign move.

“Moses Kuria may be positioning himself for negotiation power,” he said. “If Ruto runs again in 2027, Nairobi will be a key bargaining chip for Mt. Kenya. They can’t take the presidency and lose the capital. Kuria knows this.”

He hinted that Kuria could also be acting as a spoiler candidate — someone whose presence reshapes voting patterns and forces behind-the-scenes deals. “Don’t rule out a scenario where Kuria’s entry is meant to split the Kikuyu vote or push for a coalition compromise,” Makwiny warned.

A Difficult Battle for Babu Owino

Despite his youth appeal and strong social media following, Babu Owino faces a tougher challenge than expected, Makwiny noted. “Politics in Nairobi changes every day,” he said. “Babu may have ODM’s grassroots, but Moses Kuria brings experience, national exposure, and a powerful ethnic base.”

Still, Makwiny acknowledged that defeating Babu Owino won’t be easy. “The youth in Nairobi relate to him. But if Kuria unites Mt. Kenya and Raila’s camp decides to play neutral or back him for strategy, then yes — Babu could lose Nairobi.”
