Musalia Mudavadi, to head its campaign team in the upcoming Malava Constituency by-election.
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has appointed Prime Cabinet Secretary and former Amani National Congress (ANC) Party Leader, Wycliffe Musalia Mudavadi, to head its campaign team in the upcoming Malava Constituency by-election.
Mudavadi who previously represented the region and is still influential in Western Kenya has been tasked with engaging with stakeholders across the constituency to build support for a UDA candidate. His mandate includes coordinating outreach activities in line with the party’s message of unity, service delivery and continuity in governance.
During a meeting with over 100 clan chairpersons and elders from the 29 Kabras clans – the dominant sub-tribe in Malava – Mudavadi emphasized the need to elect a leader who reflects the aspirations of the community and aligns with national development priorities. He reaffirmed his role as a patron in the constituency and said he will build on the legacy of the late Malava MP, Malulu Injendi.
Mudavadi announced that his office will facilitate inclusive stakeholder consultations with youth, women, farmers, religious groups, business leaders and scholars to establish consensus on a candidate who can partner with the national government to advance Malava’s development agenda.
In his address to the clan elders, Mudavadi warned against divisive politics and clan-based mobilization. He said leadership should be defined by integrity and alignment with government priorities not populist rhetoric.
He also urged electoral maturity and asked residents to evaluate candidates based on their qualifications, leadership record and ability to represent Malava at the national level.
A memorandum presented to Mudavadi by the clan leadership through Chairperson Alphose Masinde and Secretary General Harrison Webbo Tanga listed the following as priority areas that require government attention:
Completion of Malava–Ikoli and Malava–Samitsi roads
Completion and operationalization of Namanja and Sikhuyu water projects
Construction of student hostels at Shamberere National Polytechnic
Completion of Malava Medical Training College
Operationalization of Kabras West Sub-County Headquarters

The Thursday meeting was part of a series of meetings Mudavadi has held this week with leaders and government officials from the region. Earlier meetings included NGAOs from Malava led by Western Regional Commissioner Irungu Macharia and opinion leaders and elected officials.
The meeting was attended by UDA National Vice Chairperson Kelvin Lunani, Shinyalu MP Fred Ikana, Vihiga MP Beatrice Adagala and other leaders from the region.
Mudavadi’s entry into the Malava by-election campaign means UDA is serious about consolidating its presence in Western Kenya. The party wants to reclaim the seat through a coordinated campaign that focuses on continuity in governance, local engagement and alignment with President Ruto’s national agenda.
