Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba Says Kenyans Have Lost Confidence in President Ruto’s Leadership as Public Anger Grows
Githunguri Member of Parliament Gathoni Wamuchomba has publicly stated that a section of Kenyans have lost confidence in President William Samoei Ruto’s leadership citing corruption, economic mismanagement, suppression of civil liberties and institutional defunding.
Speaking on Citizen TV on Tuesday, July 9, 2025, Wamuchomba said Kenyans are no longer supporting President Ruto’s regime and are waiting for him to leave honourably through the constitution. She said Kenyans are “allowing him to pack slowly and leave honourably.” Wamuchomba said President Ruto has no chance of being re-elected in 2027.
This comes at a time when public unrest is escalating due to high cost of living, youth unemployment, alleged misuse of public funds and intensified crackdown on government critics and protesters.
Wamuchomba alleged the current government is misappropriating state resources. She asked President Ruto to account for and return the money lost through corruption before he leaves office. “The solution between now and 2027 is for William Ruto to return the money his government has looted so that we can fill the gaps,” Wamuchomba said.
She also criticized the executive for its budget allocation saying independent constitutional commissions have been starved of resources. She asked the Head of State to allow Parliament to allocate sufficient funds to oversight bodies and public service institutions saying fiscal suppression has crippled accountability mechanisms.
In her statement Wamuchomba listed several affected institutions including:
National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC)
Ministry of Health
Higher Education Loans Board (HELB)
She said these agencies had been “broken” and asked the government to fix them in the remaining two years of the current term. “He has two years to fix it and calm the anger of the youth, calm the pensioners whose money has also been cut. We are giving him two years to pack slowly as he returns the country to default mode,” she said.

Wamuchomba also condemned President Ruto’s recent remarks against protesters, citing a reported directive to police to use excessive force, including shooting and disabling protesters involved in violent activities. She said, “You are not a village elder, you are the President of the Republic of Kenya. Whenever you open your mouth you must be measured and speak with respect.”
The MP was not pleased with the President’s reference to protesters as “those people” and asked him to use a more inclusive and respectful language when addressing citizens.
President Ruto had earlier on July 5, 2025 in a public address in Nairobi responded to the growing protests by saying his government was against violence. The President said, “Enough is enough,” and that leadership in Kenya would continue to be determined through democratic elections. “This is a democratic country and Kenyans will choose the country’s leadership through the ballot. We cannot choose leadership through violence. That will not happen in this country,” Ruto said.
As the political temperatures rise ahead of the 2027 General Election, Wamuchomba’s remarks show the deepening divisions within the leadership and the growing scrutiny of the executive’s actions and decisions.
